On the 13th of May, a boat with immigrants was detected on 28 miles off from the Port of Khoms by the Turkish frigate TCG GAZİANTEP which has been operating off Libya. The Libyan Coast Guard Command was immediately informed for the rescue operation after it was noticed that the front of the boat was deflated.
In case the boat sinks, our helicopter took off from the Turkish frigate TCG GÖKSU and the TCG GAZİANTEP frigate followed and secured the boat which was carrying the irregular migrants. The boat sank after 97 irregular migrants were rescued by the Libyan Coast Guard personnel who arrived in the area. The boat that sank following the rescue operation proved that a great disaster was recovered.
The Turkish frigate TCG GAZİANTEP operating off Libya continues to prevent loss of life in the region. During a similar incident in the previous days, it played an active role in rescuing 123 more refugees in the same region.
